The College Senate on the College of Maine at Augusta issued two no-confidence resolutions Wednesday: one concerning the College of Maine system chancellor, Dannel Malloy, and a second about UMA’s not too long ago concluded presidential search, which members demanded be scrapped due to alleged ethics violations.

The UMA college held the vote Wednesday night time after they realized Malloy and different high college system officers never informed Augusta’s presidential search committee that Michael Laliberte, the person hired in April, had obtained two votes of no confidence at his earlier job as president of the State College of New York at Delhi.

Minutes from the SUNY Delhi School Senate’s October assembly cite monetary conflicts, shared-governance considerations and an allegedly disrespectful and violent office tradition as causes for the no-confidence vote in Laliberte.

College throughout the College of Maine system expressed anger following the revelation early this week. In a letter launched Tuesday, college union president Jim McClymer wrote that “the system and management … abused the belief of all members of the UMA group who trusted in an sincere search course of.”

In a press launch issued the morning after the vote, Malloy promised to revise presidential and provost search insurance policies to “require a declaration from candidates as to whether or not they have ever been the topic of a no-confidence vote.”

Malloy additionally mentioned he would talk about the College Senate’s resolutions with the college system Board of Trustees’ Government Committee “as quickly as attainable.”

“I perceive how critical a priority that is for the college and the System, and I’ll work with everybody at UMA to revive confidence in me,” Malloy wrote.

The Government Committee of the board issued an announcement Thursday night time. “The College of Maine System Board of Trustees has obtained and reviewed the College of Maine at Augusta College Senate resolutions adopted on Could 11, 2022. It is a matter of utmost urgency and significance to the integrity of the College of Maine System and its universities. The board acknowledges the considerations of the UMA College Senate. The board is reviewing what may be completed to enhance the integrity of UMS presidential searches, in addition to the arrogance of our college communities in them.”
